The principle of outdoor painting

First of all, it is good to remember the few distinctions between interior paint and exterior paint. As a reminder, paint manufacturers systematically distinguish between paints for interior and exterior use. It would be pointless to use an interior paint outside, because the latter would quickly peel and lose shine.

As a reminder, exterior paints have certain technical specificities, which allow them to withstand the test of bad weather:

  • Exterior paint is designed for exterior use. It is generally thicker and more resistant than an interior paint (which also makes it more expensive).

  • While manufacturers are primarily interested in the colors of interior paints, they focus primarily on the resistance of exterior paint. This is why facade paints are generally available in fewer colors and do not have several finishes.

  • Some exterior paints are enriched with a water-repellent product. When the paint dries, a thin protective film is created over the paint and protects your exterior supports and your facade walls.

In addition to the special exterior paint, you can also consider applying a facade water repellent. This colorless product is used to waterproof a facade or an exterior wall. Applied directly to the facade paint (which you will of course have left to dry), it can help strengthen your exterior walls.

Note: just as interior paint is useless for outdoors painting, the reverse is also true. Using exterior paint for indoors painting is not a good idea, as exterior paint will be more expensive and less satisfactory, since it is generally duller than interior paint.

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives. Please contact us if you would like any additional information about our professional interior painters.
