Using the Best Types of House Painting Tools

Homeowners often ask our Painting Contractors in Sarasota Florida about the types of paints they would like to use for a home painting job. However, it is very important to invest and select the right house painting tools to ensure a professional and satisfactory outcome. It is also important to consider the area and the material that will be painted. Here are some of the best tools to choose for a home painting job.

Paintbrushes

The majority of paintbrushes are made from bristles, but a few will use a type of foam head. The two types of bristle paint brushes are known as natural brushes which are made out of types of animal hairs, and the synthetic brushes which will generally be made out of a type of nylon material. Not too long ago the natural bristles were considered to be the superior types for painting. However, the latest nylon bristles offer the same qualities compared to the natural types.

When it comes to using water-based latex paint, it would be best to use a nylon brush as this type of paint will cause natural bristles to become limp. It is always highly advisable to invest in high-quality paintbrushes to achieve the best results. Quality paint brushes will always make the painting job go quicker and easier. In addition, these types of brushes can be used over and over again compared to cheaper types.

Paintbrushes are available in a number of types and sizes and will be needed for painting spots that are usually harder to reach. Below are the primary types available at most hardware and homeware stores:

  • Wall paintbrushes used to spread paint over larger surfaces.
  • Trim paint brushes are used for woodwork and to cut in around corners, doors, and windows before using a roller to paint the walls.
  • Sash paintbrushes have an angle at the end of the bristles ideal for painting around windows.

Paint Rollers

Paint rollers are available in a variety of sizes and are usually an inexpensive painting tool that is useful in covering large areas. Any home owner, whether experienced or a novice will soon master the techniques used with a paint roller.

When using the roller for the first time, the roller will need to be moistened with water when using latex paints, or in a thinner for various other paint types.

The excess moisture picked up by the roller will need to be rolled out onto a surface such as kraft paper or scrap lumber. The roller will now be ready to be used for the painting exercise.

Airless Sprayers

Airless sprayers may be considered a bit harder to use as well as a bulky tool, but the tool is adequate in delivering the fastest technique in painting any surface. For larger types of painting jobs, the airless sprayer will be the fastest method to use in applying paint.

The airless sprayer works by the use of a hydraulic pump that runs electrically by moving paint from a container into a tube. The paint then moves onto the “high pressure” hose onto the spray gun and out onto the surface. Once the skill is mastered this painting tool can be one of the best investments made for the fastest results.

The airless sprayers come with a number of filters that will keep any foreign matter or particles from blocking or clogging up the tip used for spraying. However, it is advisable to filter the paints used through stocking material such as nylon before the paint is pumped into the airless sprayer for the best results.
